I have a local development server (mini PC) currently running CentOS 7 with OpenLiteSpeed 1.7.19 and LSPHP versions 7.0 to 8.3. I am still supporting client websites running on various PHP 7.x versions hence the need for this setup (PHP 7.0 to 7.3 aren't available for newer distros).
Ongoing projects are getting these old websites updated to work on current PHP versions with the target being 8.4.
I have tried adding LSPHP 8.4 but it is not available. Is this because I am using OpenLiteSpeed 1.7.19 rather than 1.8.3, or because I am using CentOS 7 (which went out of support last year), or both?
I am considering whether I should update OpenLiteSpeed to 1.8.3 if that will get me PHP 8.4, or whether that's not going to work on CentOS 7 at all and I should just leave it alone and not risk breaking it.
Assuming the latter, I will look to building another local development server for PHP 8.x (probably using AlmaLinux 9) and keep the current one for legacy code. If I do this, will I need OpenLiteSpeed 1.7.19 or 1.8.3 to get PHP 8.4?
I welcome people's thoughts please.
Thank you,
Paul
