OLS can be run as www-data, but the installation of OLS or upgrade OLS will need to run as "root" user, can not be other users, hence the upgrade will be root or sudo

or you just use package management way instead of lsup.sh way as apt-get upgrade OpenLiteSpeed

You are trying to setup web socket proxy and You will have to do it edit the configuration file directly. The ProxyPass and your rewrite rules are not supported by OLS. https://openlitespeed.org/kb/setup-openlitespeed-as-a-websocket-proxy/
